A simple guide to how DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs and books from Dad's Collection are checked, photographed and described.
Dad's Collection was built up over many years and includes sealed and pre-owned films, music and books. Each item is listed individually, with photographs of the actual item you will receive.
We photograph the actual DVD, Blu-ray, CD or book being sold rather than using generic stock images. The photographs form an important part of the listing, so what you see is the item you will receive.
DVDs & Blu-rays
Dad's Collection includes both sealed and pre-owned DVDs and Blu-rays, including world cinema, UK releases and international editions.
Pre-owned DVDs and Blu-rays are tested for playback before being listed for sale. If a disc does not play properly, it will not be listed.
Sealed DVDs and Blu-rays remain sealed and are not opened for testing. Any visible storage or packaging wear will be shown or described where relevant.
Cases, Artwork & Contents
Relevant details about the case, artwork, booklets, inserts, slipcovers, additional discs or other included contents are described where applicable. The photographs show the actual item and its contents.
DVD & Blu-ray Regions
Most of Dad's Collection consists of UK releases, although there are also US, European and other international editions. Where known, region information is included in the individual listing.
Region 2: commonly used for UK and European DVDs.
Region 1: commonly used for US and Canadian DVDs.
Region 0 / Region Free / All Regions: designed without the usual regional restriction.
Blu-ray RegionsRegion B: commonly used for UK and European Blu-rays.
Region A: commonly used for US and Canadian Blu-rays.
Region Free / All Regions: designed without the usual regional restriction.
Please check the region shown in the individual listing against your player before ordering, particularly when buying an international edition.
Different Editions
Different editions of the same film can vary in artwork, subtitles, audio, special features, aspect ratio, certification and packaging. Important edition details are included in the individual listing where known.
CDs
Pre-owned CDs from Dad's Collection are tested for playback before they are listed for sale. If a CD does not play properly, it will not be listed.
The photographs show the actual CD you will receive, including its case, artwork and any booklets or inserts supplied with it.
Relevant condition details, including noticeable wear or damage to the case, artwork or included contents, are shown or described where applicable.
Books
Books naturally change with age and storage, particularly older and collectible editions. I describe each book as accurately as I can and photograph the actual copy being offered for sale.
The photographs show the exact book you will receive, so please look through them alongside the individual condition notes before ordering.
Binding: the way the pages and cover are held together. Any noticeable looseness or damage will be described where relevant.
Spine: visible wear, fading, creasing or damage to the spine will be shown or described where relevant.
Boards: on hardback books, this refers to the rigid front and back covers beneath any dust jacket. Relevant wear or damage will be included in the condition notes.
Dust Jacket: where present, its condition is considered separately from the book itself. Wear, fading, tears or other noticeable signs of age will be shown or described where relevant.
Page Edges & Fore-edge: the exposed edges of the pages may show signs of age, handling or storage.
Foxing: brown or reddish spotting sometimes found on older books and paper as they age. Where noticed, this will be included in the condition notes.
Tanning & Discolouration: pages, page edges, covers and dust jackets can naturally darken or change colour over time due to age, handling and storage.
Dad's Name or Signature: some books may contain my dad's handwritten name or signature. Where present, this will be stated in the individual condition notes and shown in the photographs where relevant.
Notes & Underlining: some books were used by my dad for reading and reference and may contain underlining, annotations or handwritten notes. Where present, these will be stated in the individual condition notes and shown in the photographs where relevant.
Every book is different, so please read the individual condition notes and look through the photographs before ordering. I describe each copy as accurately as I can, including relevant signs of age, storage and use. The photographs always show the actual book you will receive.
Sealed Items
Where an item is described as sealed, the original wrapping remains intact and the item is not opened for testing or inspection inside. Any visible age or storage wear to the outside of the item or wrapping will be shown or described where relevant.
Dad's Collection contains thousands of films, books and CDs collected over many years. Many are individual copies, unusual editions or titles that are no longer easy to find. Every listing relates to the actual item photographed.
