This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of world cinema, independent film and memorable performances. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.

Directed by Michael Radford and adapted from the novel by George Orwell, 1984 follows Winston Smith, a government employee living beneath the constant surveillance of Big Brother in the totalitarian state of Oceania.

Featuring John Hurt and Richard Burton, the film explores a world where history can be rewritten, language restricted and private thought treated as a threat. Hurt gives Winston a quiet vulnerability, while Burton brings chilling authority to O'Brien as Winston's attempt to preserve his individuality leads him deeper into the machinery of the Party.
