Julian treats seduction as a profession requiring discipline, discretion and complete control. His clothes, apartment, car and relationships all form part of an image he has constructed to protect both his livelihood and his sense of identity.

That control begins to disappear after Julian accepts an unfamiliar assignment arranged through one of his contacts. When a woman connected to the encounter is later found murdered, the police begin treating him as their principal suspect.

As evidence appears to gather around him, Julian discovers that the people who once relied upon his discretion are unwilling to risk themselves on his behalf. His polished world narrows into fear, isolation and the growing possibility that he has been deliberately framed.

Lauren Hutton plays Michelle Stratton, a politician’s wife whose relationship with Julian develops beyond the carefully maintained boundaries of his profession. Her willingness to believe him becomes increasingly important as his confidence and independence begin to fail.

Richard Gere gives Julian a compelling mixture of elegance, vanity and vulnerability, gradually revealing the uncertainty beneath his controlled exterior. Héctor Elizondo, Nina van Pallandt and Bill Duke add further tension to a world governed by money, secrecy and carefully negotiated power.
