BlacKkKlansman Blu-ray
Spike Lee's gripping crime drama stars John David Washington and Adam Driver in the extraordinary story of an undercover investigation into the Ku Klux Klan.
This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of cinema, outstanding performances and films prepared to confront difficult subjects. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.
Directed by Spike Lee and inspired by the memoir of Ron Stallworth, BlacKkKlansman stars John David Washington as the first Black police officer to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department.
After responding to an advertisement placed by the local Ku Klux Klan, Stallworth begins an extraordinary undercover investigation. He communicates with members by telephone while fellow detective Flip Zimmerman, played by Adam Driver, assumes his identity during face to face meetings.
As their investigation moves deeper into the organisation, both men face increasing suspicion and danger. Laura Harrier, Topher Grace and Corey Hawkins join the cast as Spike Lee moves between tension, satire and anger while keeping the threat of racist extremism firmly at the centre of the story.
The film also connects its historical setting with more recent events, reinforcing the continuing relevance of the prejudice and organised hatred it examines.
A powerful sealed Blu-ray for admirers of Spike Lee, John David Washington and bold cinema that combines compelling storytelling with difficult questions about racism, extremism and justice.
