From Dad's Collection

This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of world cinema, independent film and memorable performances. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.

Directed by Bent Hamer and based on the novel by Charles Bukowski, Factotum follows aspiring writer Henry Chinaski as he drifts between low paid jobs, bars, betting shops and unstable relationships while stubbornly refusing to abandon his ambition of becoming a published writer.

Featuring Matt Dillon and Lili Taylor, the film captures Bukowski's distinctive mixture of dry humour, melancholy and self destruction without romanticising Henry's poverty, drinking or repeated poor decisions. Dillon makes him frustrating, stubborn and oddly compelling as he continues to write even while much of the rest of his life falls apart.

A strong collector title for admirers of Charles Bukowski, Matt Dillon and independent literary drama exploring creativity, rejection and the determination to keep going despite repeated failure.
