Flags of Our Fathers Special Edition DVD

Clint Eastwood's powerful World War II drama explores the famous flag raising at Iwo Jima and the complicated human cost faced by the servicemen presented to the world as heroes.

From Dad's Collection

This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of cinema, powerful performances and films that looked beyond familiar historical images to explore the people and emotions behind them. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.

Directed by Clint Eastwood, Flags of Our Fathers follows the American servicemen connected to the iconic photograph of the United States flag being raised on Iwo Jima during the Second World War.

After the photograph captures the public imagination, three surviving servicemen are brought home and sent across America to help raise money for the war effort. Presented as symbols of courage and victory, they are expected to repeat a simplified version of events while carrying memories far more painful and complicated than the public understands.

Moving between the brutal battle and its uneasy aftermath, the film questions how heroism can be created, promoted and misunderstood. Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford and Adam Beach lead an ensemble that also includes Jamie Bell, Barry Pepper and Paul Walker.

A compelling addition for collectors of Clint Eastwood films, World War II cinema and thoughtful historical dramas examining bravery, memory and the personal cost of public heroism.
