This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of world cinema, independent film and memorable performances. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.

Directed by Roberto Rossellini, Germany Year Zero follows twelve-year-old Edmund as he struggles to survive among the ruins of Berlin after the Second World War, where food is scarce, work is difficult to find and the city remains physically and morally shattered.

Featuring Edmund Meschke and Ernst Pittschau, the film explores childhood, poverty and moral confusion through Rossellini's restrained neorealist style, allowing the devastated streets of Berlin to become an essential part of the story.
