Gladiator Extended Special Edition DVD

Ridley Scott's sweeping historical epic stars Russell Crowe as a betrayed Roman general whose fight for survival becomes a powerful journey of honour, revenge and redemption.

From Dad's Collection

This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine appreciation for commanding performances, ambitious filmmaking and stories where large scale spectacle never overshadowed the people at their centre. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.

Directed by Ridley Scott, Gladiator stars Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius, a respected Roman general and trusted servant of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. When the emperor's plans threaten the ambitions of his son Commodus, betrayal changes Maximus's life forever.

Stripped of his rank, family and freedom, Maximus is sold into slavery and trained as a gladiator. His courage and skill in the arena gradually make him a symbol for the crowds, carrying him ever closer to Rome and the man responsible for everything he has lost.

Joaquin Phoenix gives Commodus a dangerous mixture of insecurity, cruelty and desperation, while Connie Nielsen, Richard Harris, Oliver Reed and Djimon Hounsou add depth to a story shaped by political ambition, loyalty and sacrifice.

This Extended Special Edition presents the longer version of the film across a three disc set, together with extensive supplementary material exploring the production and the world created for the screen.

An outstanding addition for collectors of Ridley Scott films, Russell Crowe performances and historical epics combining powerful drama, memorable characters and spectacular filmmaking.
