In Cold Blood DVD
A stark true-crime drama based on Truman Capote's nonfiction book, examining a brutal murder, its aftermath and the men responsible with restraint and psychological depth.
This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of world cinema, independent film and memorable performances. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.
Written and directed by Richard Brooks and based on the nonfiction book by Truman Capote, In Cold Blood follows Perry Smith and Richard Hickock, two former prisoners whose search for money leads them to the Clutter family home in rural Kansas.
After discovering that the fortune they expected does not exist, the two men commit a brutal crime. As investigators work to understand what happened, Perry and Richard travel across the country while the consequences of their actions steadily close in.
Robert Blake and Scott Wilson give disturbing, controlled performances that avoid easy explanations, while the black-and-white photography gives the film a stark and unsettling atmosphere.
Rather than treating the case as spectacle, the film focuses on motive, consequence and the difficult questions left behind after senseless violence.
A serious and uncompromising crime drama built around strong performances, stark imagery and the weight of a real-life case.
