Jimmy's Hall DVD
Brand new and sealed. Ken Loach's warm and thoughtful historical drama, inspired by the story of Irish activist Jimmy Gralton and his fight to preserve a place for music, learning and community.
This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of cinema, strong performances and stories rooted in real human experience. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.
Directed by Ken Loach, Jimmy's Hall follows Jimmy Gralton, played by Barry Ward, who returns home to rural Ireland after years in America and helps revive a local hall where people can dance, learn, debate and spend time together.
As the hall becomes increasingly popular, it also attracts opposition from powerful local figures who view Jimmy's ideas and influence as a threat. What begins as a community gathering place develops into a wider struggle over expression, authority and the right of ordinary people to shape their own lives.
Barry Ward is joined by Simone Kirby, Jim Norton and Andrew Scott in a film that combines warmth and humour with Loach's characteristic interest in social history, inequality and personal conviction.
A thoughtful sealed DVD for admirers of Ken Loach, historical drama and character led stories about resilience, community and standing by your principles.
