Live and Let Die Special 007 Edition DVD
Roger Moore makes his memorable debut as James Bond in a stylish and fast-moving 007 adventure filled with danger, deception and unmistakable confidence.
Some treasures at Kate's Treasures15 are chosen because they are beautiful or useful. Others are here because they belonged to my dad and formed part of a collection shaped by his genuine love of cinema, unforgettable performances and the craft of filmmaking.
Dad was an actor and scriptwriter who understood the importance of character, dialogue and the screen presence required to make an established role feel fresh again. His collection reflected a lifelong appreciation for iconic performances, memorable villains and films that became part of a much larger cinematic legacy.
Directed by Guy Hamilton, Live and Let Die introduces Roger Moore as James Bond. When three British agents are killed while investigating separate locations, Bond is sent to uncover the connection between their deaths.
His investigation leads to Dr Kananga, the powerful ruler of the fictional Caribbean island of San Monique, and his criminal identity as Harlem drug lord Mr Big. Kananga plans to flood the American market with free heroin before taking control of the trade once his competitors have been destroyed.
Bond is aided by CIA agent Felix Leiter and encounters Solitaire, played by Jane Seymour, a tarot reader whose apparent ability to predict the future is central to Kananga's operation. Yaphet Kotto brings authority and menace to the dual role of Kananga and Mr Big.
With its memorable theme song, elaborate chase sequences and a lighter but still assured central performance from Roger Moore, the film establishes a new direction for Bond while retaining the espionage, danger and spectacle associated with the series.
An entertaining addition for collectors of James Bond films, Roger Moore releases and classic British action cinema filled with style, suspense and larger-than-life adventure.
