This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of cinema, memorable performances and character driven storytelling. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.
Directed by Charles Jarrott, Mary Queen of Scots stars Vanessa Redgrave as Mary Stuart and Glenda Jackson as Queen Elizabeth I, two monarchs whose lives become inseparable through politics, family, religion and fear.
The film follows Mary's return to Scotland, her troubled reign and the growing threat her claim presents to Elizabeth's position on the English throne. Surrounded by ambitious advisers, shifting alliances and betrayal, both women must navigate a world in which political weakness can prove fatal.
Redgrave brings warmth, pride and vulnerability to Mary, while Jackson gives Elizabeth a formidable mixture of intelligence, authority and insecurity. Patrick McGoohan, Timothy Dalton and Trevor Howard add further weight to the supporting cast.
An excellent sealed title for admirers of Vanessa Redgrave, Glenda Jackson, royal history and classic British historical drama.
