Massacre at Malmedy by Charles Whiting

A sobering account of the Malmedy Massacre during the Battle of the Bulge, placing the killings within their military setting while keeping the human cost firmly in view.

From Dad's Collection

This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine interest in military history and the human consequences behind major events. He was drawn to books that looked beyond battlefield movements and official records to consider the people caught inside them, particularly when history involved difficult questions of violence, responsibility and remembrance. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each book now looking for a new home where it can continue to be read and appreciated.

Written by Charles Whiting, Massacre at Malmedy examines one of the most infamous atrocities of the Second World War and places the killings within the wider context of the Battle of the Bulge.

The book considers the circumstances surrounding the massacre, the soldiers involved and the significance of the event within the wider conflict, while keeping the loss of life and lasting consequences at the centre of the history.

A difficult but important account for readers interested in the Second World War, the Battle of the Bulge, war crimes and the realities of wartime violence.
