Monty Python's Life of Brian Digitally Remastered DVD
Monty Python's irreverent British comedy follows one very ordinary man whose repeated insistence that he is not the Messiah only seems to convince everyone otherwise.
This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of world cinema, independent film and memorable performances. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.
Directed by Terry Jones, Monty Python's Life of Brian stars Graham Chapman as Brian Cohen, a young man born in Bethlehem on the same night and only a short distance away from Jesus.
Living under Roman occupation, Brian becomes involved with the People's Front of Judea, a revolutionary group whose plans are frequently delayed by internal arguments, rival factions and its own impressive lack of organisation.
After Brian is mistaken for a religious leader, an increasingly devoted crowd begins following him and interpreting everything he says as a sign. His attempts to tell them to think for themselves only seem to make the situation worse.
John Cleese, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones appear in multiple roles, filling the film with Roman officials, revolutionaries, followers and people determined to misunderstand one another.
Behind the absurdity is a sharp satire of political division, unquestioning devotion, authority and the human tendency to follow anyone who appears confident enough to lead.
A classic Monty Python comedy packed with absurdity, political satire and some of British cinema's most recognisable comic performances.
