Patton DVD

George C. Scott gives a commanding performance as General George S. Patton in this large-scale Second World War drama about leadership, ambition and military command.

From Dad's Collection

This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of world cinema, independent film and memorable performances. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.

Directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, Patton stars George C. Scott as General George S. Patton, the American commander whose confidence, discipline and battlefield success are matched by an explosive temperament and complete certainty in his own abilities.

The film follows Patton through Allied campaigns in North Africa and Europe, charting military victories alongside the disputes and controversies that repeatedly threaten his career.

Karl Malden provides a quieter contrast as General Omar Bradley, highlighting the difference between measured leadership and Patton's far more forceful approach to command.

Large-scale battle sequences sit alongside a character study of a man whose determination and ability are inseparable from the behaviour that repeatedly creates problems for the people around him.

A substantial war drama driven by George C. Scott's performance and an examination of ambition, discipline, ego and military leadership.

Arya's Approval

Patton enters every room as though the entire war effort has been waiting for him personally. George C. Scott gives him enormous presence, even when the man himself seems completely unfamiliar with the idea of lowering his voice.
