Clouzot is a master of pressure, he lets jealousy, ambition, and desperation simmer until you can feel it in the room. It is suspenseful, yes, but what really grips you is how real the characters feel, flawed, proud, and painfully human.

If you like noir with intelligence and character driven tension rather than cheap twists, you will love this. It is classic French cinema that still feels sharp because it understands people.
