Russian Ark DVD

A breathtaking journey through Russian history, art and memory, filmed in one extraordinary continuous take inside the Hermitage Museum.

From Dad's Collection

This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of world cinema, independent film and memorable performances. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.

Directed by Alexander Sokurov, Russian Ark follows an unseen narrator and a mysterious European traveller as they move through the rooms of the Hermitage Museum, encountering figures and moments from different periods of Russian history.

Featuring Sergei Dreiden and Maria Kuznetsova, the entire film unfolds in one uninterrupted take, creating the sensation of drifting through a living museum where art, architecture, music and centuries of history exist side by side.

A remarkable addition for collectors of Alexander Sokurov films, Artificial Eye releases, Russian cinema and technically groundbreaking world cinema.
