This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of cinema, memorable performances and films that reflected real lives with honesty. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.
Directed by Karel Reisz, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning stars Albert Finney as Arthur Seaton, a young Nottingham factory worker determined to live on his own terms despite the expectations of work, family and society.
Set against the industrial landscape of post-war Britain, the film follows Arthur through relationships, rebellion and difficult personal choices. His refusal to accept the limitations others place upon him helped make the character one of the most memorable figures of British New Wave cinema.
Finney's commanding central performance is joined by Shirley Anne Field, Rachel Roberts, Hylda Baker and Norman Rossington in a film whose directness, humour and social observation remain striking decades after its original release.
