The Guard of Auschwitz DVD
A serious historical drama examining conscience, complicity and survival within the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of world cinema, independent film and memorable performances. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.
Written and directed by Terry Lee Coker, The Guard of Auschwitz follows Hans, a young German man serving as an SS guard at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
As he is confronted by the brutality surrounding him, Hans begins to question the moral consequences of obedience and the reality of the system he is helping to uphold.
The film also follows prisoners attempting to survive inside the camp, placing individual fear, suffering and endurance against the wider machinery of Nazi persecution.
Lewis Kirk leads the cast, alongside Claudia Grace McKell, Michael McKell, Stephen Boxer, Noeleen Comiskey and Sally George.
This is a fictional historical drama rather than a documentary account. Its subject matter relates to real atrocities and should be approached with appropriate care and respect for the victims and survivors of the Holocaust.
A sombre historical drama centred on conscience, responsibility, persecution and the human consequences of complicity.
