This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of world cinema, independent film and memorable performances. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.

Directed by Jan Němec, The Party and the Guests (O slavnosti a hostech) follows a group of friends whose pleasant countryside outing is interrupted by a strange interrogation before they are invited to an apparently civilised gathering.

As politeness gives way to pressure, obedience and increasingly sinister displays of authority, the film uses dark humour and carefully controlled tension to create a chilling political allegory about conformity and the quiet abuse of power.

An outstanding choice for collectors of Czech New Wave cinema, Jan Němec films, Second Run editions and intelligent political satire.
