This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of world cinema, independent film and memorable performances. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.
Directed by Miklós Jancsó, The Round-Up (Szegénylegények) is set after the failed Hungarian Revolution of 1848, where prisoners are held within an isolated detention camp while the authorities attempt to identify resistance fighters.
Starring Tibor Molnár and András Kozák, the film uses elegant long takes and precisely controlled camera movement to create a powerful meditation on fear, obedience, manipulation and state control.
