This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine appreciation for storytelling built through character, atmosphere and carefully observed performances. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be enjoyed.
Produced by Cosgrove Hall and directed by Mark Hall, The Wind in the Willows brings Kenneth Grahame's much loved story to life through beautifully detailed stop motion animation.
When the gentle and curious Mole leaves his spring cleaning behind, he discovers the riverbank and forms a lasting friendship with the dependable Rat. Their peaceful world soon expands to include the wise Badger and the wealthy, impulsive and endlessly enthusiastic Mr Toad.
Toad's latest obsession with motorcars leads him into increasing trouble, threatening both his freedom and the future of Toad Hall. His friends must work together to protect their home while attempting to persuade Toad that enthusiasm without judgement can have serious consequences.
David Jason gives Toad a wonderful mixture of confidence, mischief and complete lack of restraint, while Richard Pearson, Michael Hordern, Ian Carmichael and Beryl Reid bring warmth and character to the riverbank world.
The film balances gentle humour and adventure with a strong sense of friendship, loyalty and home. Its handcrafted animation, richly textured sets and expressive characters give the story a timeless atmosphere that remains wonderfully distinctive.
