This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of world cinema, independent film and memorable performances. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.

Directed by Simon Curtis and adapted by Kevin Elyot from Patrick Hamilton's celebrated trilogy, Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky follows three intertwined lives centred around The Midnight Bell public house in 1930s London.

Featuring Bryan Dick and Sally Hawkins, the drama explores longing, loneliness and the painful distance between the life someone wants and the one they actually have. Carefully drawn characters and restrained performances give the story a melancholy warmth that suits Hamilton's world beautifully.
