When the Levees Broke DVD
Brand new and sealed. Spike Lee's powerful three disc documentary examining Hurricane Katrina, the devastation of New Orleans and the experiences of those whose lives and communities were changed forever.
This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of cinema, history and documentaries that preserved important human stories. His collection remains an important part of Kate's Treasures15, with each title now looking for a new home where it can continue to be appreciated.
Directed by Spike Lee, When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts examines Hurricane Katrina and the catastrophic flooding that followed the failure of the levee system in New Orleans.
Through interviews with residents, survivors, journalists, politicians, engineers and emergency workers, the documentary records both the immediate devastation and the anger surrounding the official response. Particular attention is given to the people whose homes, families and communities were directly affected.
Rather than treating the disaster simply as a historical event, Lee allows those who experienced it to speak for themselves, creating a detailed and deeply human account of loss, resilience, inequality and institutional failure.
An important sealed documentary for viewers interested in Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans, modern American history and powerful real life storytelling.
