Created by Ron Koslow, Beauty and the Beast stars Linda Hamilton as Catherine Chandler, a successful New York lawyer whose life changes after she is brutally attacked and left for dead.

Catherine is rescued by Vincent, played by Ron Perlman, a powerful and compassionate man with leonine features who lives within a secret community hidden in tunnels beneath New York City.

As Catherine recovers, she discovers that she and Vincent share an unusual emotional connection that allows him to sense when she is frightened or in danger. Their bond grows despite the physical and social barriers separating their lives above and below the city.

Vincent’s underground world is led by Father, portrayed by Roy Dotrice, and provides refuge for people who have found no safety or belonging in the world above. Its candlelit tunnels, libraries and hidden chambers give the series a distinctive atmosphere somewhere between urban drama, romantic fantasy and modern fairy tale.

Linda Hamilton brings intelligence, warmth and determination to Catherine, while Ron Perlman gives Vincent remarkable sensitivity, dignity and emotional depth beneath his intimidating appearance.

Right darlings... Vincent lives beneath New York in a candlelit tunnel filled with books, poetry and people who appear far more civilised than those living upstairs. Catherine visits, danger immediately follows and he somehow knows whenever she needs him. Beautifully atmospheric, properly emotional and exactly the sort of series where one episode quietly becomes six.
