Burn! (1969) DVD Marlon Brando All Regions
A powerful, politically charged drama that blends revolution, power, and manipulation into something far deeper than a typical historical film.
Some items on Kate's Treasures15 are chosen because they are beautiful or useful. Some are here because they meant something to my dad. He was an actor, a scriptwriter, and a serious collector of films and books that had something to say. This is one of those pieces.
Directed by Gillo Pontecorvo, the filmmaker behind The Battle of Algiers, this film explores colonialism, revolution, and the price of power. Marlon Brando plays a British agent sent to manipulate a slave uprising for political and financial gain.
Set on a Caribbean island, it moves from calculated strategy to full scale rebellion, questioning who really benefits when revolutions are engineered from the outside.
With a haunting score by Ennio Morricone, this is thoughtful, layered cinema that rewards attention and sits firmly in that space between historical drama and political commentary.
