This copy comes from my dad's personal collection. Dad was an actor and scriptwriter with a genuine love of world cinema, independent film and memorable performances. Directed by Ingmar Bergman, The Serpent's Egg is set in Berlin during the economic and political turmoil of the Weimar Republic. American circus performer Abel Rosenberg is left increasingly vulnerable following the death of his brother, struggling to understand a city filled with poverty, suspicion and unrest.

Starring David Carradine and Liv Ullmann, the film blends historical drama with psychological unease as fear spreads, institutions begin to fail and a society becomes increasingly receptive to cruelty and control.
